This is an honest man, a straight shooter who speaks his mind. Inspiring and spontaneous he can sometimes be seen as too aggressive or impatient by those who prefer a more subtle approach to life.
Tobi walked into Blaqjoker’s room and plugged in the AUX to Prettyboydo’s Wildfire EP. We had listened to it a few days back but I was baking cookies and didn’t hear WANI’s feature on the Mentally track and so when Tobi replayed it and Same Energy came right after Mentally, I knew it was my sound.
Now WANI was someone I definitely have heard before now, not his sound I mean his name, something about him and his familiarity made me so sure I had seen or heard about him – surprised at the psychedelic waves of the song he was featured in, I typed WANI on Apple music and added everything about him to my playlist.
Fast Life took me out and how it entered into No Love featuring the same Prettyboydo’s whom I first came in contact with WANI made me not only understand the business of music but also understand the interception of sound and how it can greatly play in an artist’s growth. While they are both alternative artists exploiting Afro fusions, WANI does more danceable R&B while Prettyboydo is an Afro-pop artist who has learned the art of rapping indigenously to match both dancehall and hardcore rap.
Lagos City Vice was an EP in 2018, WANI went all out with his creativity as he picked sounds from Chicago, Lagos and parts of Africa where he journeyed and lived, he made this sound work so much that no artist has impressed me before. It was a story, matching his album title with a story from 2face Riddim sampling the very legendary voice of 2face Idibia and a bit of his Keep on Rocking released in 2011 to match melodies that greatly impressed me.
China Designers is a tale of his original girlfriend compared to other fake girls rocking China designers, we know how many of those girls we get to see in Lagos on a daily, he moves on to praise her with danceable Afro in Yoruba and English, great song for parties and weddings that involve one woman standing out.
Instaman may be a funny song but you know those girls you get entangled with and the next thing is showing off? Babe wanted to turn WANI into her instalover. Something WANI is not very used to as he continuously said “her insta can’t, that’s not my insta plan” but he is a gentleman and continued to What You Like in the next track, detailing vibes and tales of his casanova phase, very psychedelic song for lovemaking, especially after a fight. He sampled a bit of Mr Eazi and Eugy’s Body released in 2016.
MVP was the perfect song to exit an EP. I danced because those two Island girls wouldn’t leave WANI alone. Girls who hang on men in clubs drinking Hennessy and smoking, hoping he clears the bills and takes them home, those China designer girls hustling from track two! God bless them and their hustle.
I didn’t vibe to In2u, I don’t know why I haven’t gotten myself to listen to it or maybe the cover art is not working for me, but I will keep trying.
WANI is Sagittarius which means Fun-loving, independent and exciting, Sagittarius men are in some ways the wild child of the zodiac. Adventurous, sociable and friendly, they are typically determined to live life to the fullest, amongst other things often making them physical and athletic.
This is an honest man, a straight shooter who speaks his mind. Inspiring and spontaneous he can sometimes be seen as too aggressive or impatient by those who prefer a more subtle approach to life.
He values independence and freedom, manifested both in a liberal open-mindedness and a dislike of feeling trapped or obligated. He often does better with a strong-willed and independent partner, rather than one who is too needy or possessive.
Conclusively, I recommend WANI in bed because he will make great psychedelic sex that will make your pussy pop after, his sound because he is simply too good to ignore.
